Today, you see hashtags everywhere. You see them in Twitter, Instagram, on Facebook, television, ad campaigns, and the list goes on. It's used in the way we communicate, advertising, and in discovering new things. Some businesses rely on it to grow, market, and sell their products. People use it to express themselves, find new things, and be discovered. There's really no limit in to how you use the hashtag.
The use of hashtags began in 2007 with Twitter. A developer tweeted on Twitter, proposing the idea of grouping topics using the hash symbol. It was rejected by Twitter. By October 2007, citizen journalists began using the hashtag #SanDiegoFire to tweet updates on a series of forest fires in San Diego. That is when the use of hashtags took off.
A popular trend going on today is the use of hashtag at a party or event. You frequently hear the emcee at the event announce a unique hashtag. Urging the guests to use the hashtag in their photos when posting to Instagram or in their tweets. What this does is it allows for anyone, especially the hosts, to find photos or tweets that is related to the event. Anyone can do a search of the specified hashtag and find posts that is related to that hashtag. Well as long as the person that posted keeps their account public. If their account is private, only users who are following that user will be able to view their posts.
Hawaii Events Unlimited provides a Hashtag Print Service where photos that are tagged with the specified hashtag, gets printed. Your guests can now actually own a physical copy of the photo they've taken. We are able to customize the print layout to commemorate the special event. We can also print copies for the host so that they can have a collection of photos which were taken at their event from their guests.
This is surely a great keepsake for your guests and a great way to preserve your memories at your event. It is also a great marketing tool for companies.
Most companies that provide photo booths don't give much focus on their backdrops. A lot of them use mostly plain white, black, or colored sheets. They are plain, boring, and not very professional looking. Reason is because in the history of photo booths, that's what the backdrops looked like.
Today's photo booths have evolved from the traditional photo booths to the more open style photo booths. With the popularity of this "open style", there has been a big debate as to whether these are still considered "photo booths". Open style works the same as the traditional photo booths. The main difference is that the open style photo booth is not in an enclosed compartment.
With the popularity of "open style" photo booths increasing, there should be no reason why other companies should still be using plain and boring backdrops. Open style gives you the room to improve on the quality of the photos including the backdrops. We at Hawaii Events Unlimited embraces this relatively new concept and strive to provide our clients with as much options as possible when choosing a backdrop.
Hawaii Events Unlimited has a variety of backdrops to choose from. We have drapes, petals, foil, and can even have custom printed ones. For the first time ever, here is a complete list of our backdrops, which we only allow our booked clients to view.
Along with the backdrops we have available, we can custom print a backdrop for you. We can design one for you or you can design your own backdrop and we will have it printed.
We are always trying to add to our backdrop collection. There are always new and exciting backdrops being featured in the market. Unfortunately, we can not own every single backdrop there is. So for a limited time only, if you want a backdrop that you have seen from other companies that we do not have, we will purchase that backdrop for you for no additional charge. As long as the price for it does not exceed our budgeting limit.
We would also like to offer you a discount for custom printed backdrops. If we custom print a backdrop for you and we are able to use the backdrop for other events, we will offer you a substantial discount.

Years and years ago when I was learning about coding and designing my first website, I remember seeing a lot of gif files. These gif files were images or animated images that brought a website to life. They were small files and were popular on websites because they were a lot more manageable than other image formats. Especially during a time when a dial up modem was the only way to connect to the internet.
Over the years they started to phase out as internet speeds became faster and videos, flash, jpg, and others started to take over. The quality of gifs paled in comparison to the newer formats. For a while, I thought gifs were a thing of the past. Until recently.
Ever since I joined up on Facebook about 10 years ago, I would see links to animated gifs from time to time. It would be very short animated movies. The animation would just loop and loop until you closed the page. Just recently, Facebook announced that they will allow animated gifs on the timeline. You can not post an animated gif directly to Facebook, but you can share a link to an animated gif posted elsewhere on to your timeline.
At the same time of this announcement, there has been an increased awareness in the photo booth community about animated gifs. Photo booth software developers began incorporating animated gifs into the software. After the announcement, I slowly started seeing an increase of animated gifs on my Facebook timeline.
I don't see animated gifs making a huge comeback but with the photo booth market, it does have some advantages. Gifs are still small in size in comparison to jpgs or movie files. The other advantage is that they are viewable on any web browser and does not require any plug in at all. This makes it easy to share with almost anyone. It is an extremely old format so it is possible to view animated gifs on a computer that's over 20 years old.
Ironically, creating an animated gif is not as simple as editing a video file on your smart phone. There's a few apps out there but there isn't much software out there to create them.
I see this gaining popularity in the photo booth market and have decided to add this fun feature to our services. If you book our kiosk along with our photo booth, we will provide animated gifs to you free of charge. You will be able to send and receive the animated gifs via text or email using our kiosk. We will also upload the animated gifs to our gallery so that you can get the link and post it in your timeline.
This is one of the many reasons why to book us. We are currently one of the only companies in Hawaii offering this feature. Contact us today!
One of the most important things when booking a company to provide their services for your event is if they have liability insurance. It is not only a required thing to have but it shows you how committed, and professional a company is in providing their services. There are a lot of new companies that pop up just to make a quick buck(See my previous blog post-The oversaturated photo booth market). Having liability insurance is a positive sign that the company is serious about what they do. It separates the "Men" from the "Boys".
Why is it so important? A lot of venues are now requiring vendors to have liability insurance. We provide the equipment that services your event. We unload the equipment from our vehicles and move them into the venue. We then set it up, perform the service, break it down, and load it back into the vehicle. Anything can happen during that time at the venue. Someone could trip over a cord and get hurt or someone could be dancing and accidentally hit a speaker and have it fall on them. Liability insurance protects the client, the venue, and our company.
For a company to not have insurance is a really scary thing. I have heard horror stories from the legal ramifications of a company that did not have insurance at an event where someone got hurt. It completely shut the company down and has ruined the life of the owner. Not only that, this has caused the plaintiff a lot of grief, time, and be in unnecessary circumstances.
Here is an actual story from an actual company that provides the same services we do.
Anonymous Several years ago had an enclosed booth at outdoor concert venue in the mountains (Booth was inside main building). At end of the evening brought our box truck back on the grounds to load out. Upon leaving a big coach bus was blocking part of the entrance waiting for the last guests. I moved slightly to the left when began hearing a ripping sound. Evidently, there was a point of a roof sticking out on the next building that I not only ran into, but lodged it in the side of the truck and was unable to dislodge it, blocking the only entrance. Had to call a tow truck (at midnight) to literally pull the truck to get unstuck. In addition, catering had to hand carry everything to the road causing overtime for the bride. Had to plead with the venue not to take damages out of client's security deposit, but rather go through my insurance. Insurance covered property damage, caterer's overtime charges and getting the truck repaired.
Liability insurance is not only beneficial for the company, it can help protect the client in situations like this too. This is one example as to why hire someone who carries insurance. There are many more horror stories like this out there. Just imagine if the company did not have insurance.
Hawaii Events Unlimited provides liability Insurance. We have never been in a situation where we needed it to protect us. We have been in the business for over 10 years and we prevent ourselves in getting into these situations in the first place. If you book with us, you will have peace of mind that we are covered for any situations that may arise. If you book with someone else, please do yourself a favor and save yourself some headache by booking someone who does carry liability insurance.
Dixie Grill is one of my favorite places to go especially during Crabfest. Dixie Grill serves Southern style food like their popular Baby Back Ribs, Country Fried Steak, and Collard Greens. Also can't forget their smoked meats which is smoked fresh daily.
It is a comfortable place for a group of people or if you are going by yourself. I like to go right after work. It's usually not as busy during that time and so I find a seat right up to the bar almost immediately. I place my order and while I wait, I catch up on some sports on their large tv screens they have in there. They also give you complementary popcorn while you wait for your food.
In the fall months of the year, Dixie Grill usually have their Crabfest. That is when I like to go with other people. Nothing beats eating a large platter of king crab with some good friends and some beer.
Their can of crab(pictured below) is one of my favorite things to eat there especially during crab fest. Off season, I like to get their baby back ribs. The meat just falls off the bone and they have a variety of awesome sauces to go with that. Their appetizers are great also! I recommend getting their mac & cheese and hush puppies.
I absolutely love Dixie Grill. If you haven't gotten a chance to go there yet, swing on by. If you book any of our services at Hawaii Events Unlimited, we will give you a free $50 complimentary gift certificate(until we run out)! Now you won't have any reason to not check this place out!
They are located at 99-016 Kamehameha Hwy Aiea and they are open every day. You can reach them at 808-485-2722 or you can visit their website at www.dixiegrill.com

He was always helpful especially when I had questions about photography.
You may recognize some of Jeptha's commercial work from Urban Flava, Madison and Co, Razor Concepts, Ala Moana Center, and Jeans Warehouse to name a few. He has also photographed countless local bands and models. You will also have seen some of his work in Publications like Sassy Magazine and GMag
I am extremely excited to work with Jeptha. As a former wedding photographer, we both understand the importance of your very special day. Your wedding will be a story that you would want to tell your kids and grand kids. Let us make it a beautiful story and one we can capture so that you can cherish it forever.

We always like to try new things and offer new services to our customers. Here is something new and fun. It is our Fisheye Photo Booth!
We use a special fisheye lens that can capture a 170 degree photo. Perfect for capturing extremely large groups. Backdrops are not necessary. We can use the entire venue as a very unique and fun backdrop.
This setup requires very little space. Almost half the space that our regular open air booth requires. This fun service operates just like our open air photo booth. It will take multiple photos and does not cost any extra.
Book us now and make your event a very unique one with this service!
For the past several years, there has been a boom in photo booth companies. The same can be said with mobile dj companies although mobile dj companies started its boom many years before photo booths became popular. Both markets are very similar to each other. They cater to the same clients. They also share the same problems. It is a growth that can be positive and negative to the market.
I frequently view competitor's websites. I thoroughly go through their websites. I compare their prices, see what they offer, what they are about, and see their output quality. I compare them with other companies and I also compare them with ours. I have them bookmarked so I can quickly go back to their page. I immediately do research on a company as soon as I hear about them. And that happens quite often. I've already found out about 2 new companies in Hawaii while writing this blog.
Photo booth companies are popping out of no where at an alarming rate. While I research these companies, I try to find out what made them want to start a photo booth company. A lot of companies started a photo booth company because it is a fast growing profitable trend. Technology has also played a large part in the growth. Technology has made it affordable and easily available to everyone. Which could be said the same with the mobile dj market.
This growth has brought up some exciting new companies. Although at the same time, there are those that aren't very exciting at all. Going through their websites or even viewing their cragslist ad, I can immediately tell how serious a company is with their business. Photo booths are supposed to be fun and exciting but running it should be taken seriously. If you read some of their ads, you can clearly see they are just in it for the money. A photo booth is more than just photos and a print. It is an experience and the preservation of memories of a special event.
Some do it for fun or just for a quick buck. The companies that undercut everyone to make a few bucks and not care about their product don't realize is that they are hurting the market and hurting our image. We take pride in what we do and we care about our product. Business is being taken away from us because all these companies want is just putting some extra cash in their pocket.
We have provided photo booth services a lot longer than most of the other companies out there. I've seen a lot of new companies created but I have also seen some that has closed down over the years. By looking at their business, I could already tell those companies were doomed. There are some now that seems like they won't last very long. It's because they are doing it for the wrong reasons.
With the ton of available photo booth companies out there, one advice I can give about hiring a photo booth company is to do your research. Unless you are paying $100 for a photo booth, you need to care about the money you are putting in to hiring one. Don't just look at their services or their price. Look in to what the company is all about. A lot don't care about the market and just wants your money. Find them on yelp and read their reviews or ask your friends about the company.
Businesses aren't succesful without the help from other business. For this blog, i'd like to take some time and introduce a new business being run by some very good friends. They have been a great factor in the success of my business. Although Hawaii Events Unlimited and Spin Knowledge are new companies, we have worked and helped each other way before these 2 new companies began.
Back in the late 90s, I started my djing career. There weren't much places to buy dj gear back then. I've heard of a dj store in Kaneohe. It was a far drive but I really wanted to check it out. I can't remember who the staff were back then but I remember telling me about a shop they had in Waipio. I started going to that shop and that's where I met Eric and Sheri.
Fast forward till about 2007. That's when I started to really get to know them. I frequented their shop almost every week. As a customer, our relationship slowly grew into being friends. We would see each other outside of the shop and started working with each other at events.
Now in 2015, Eric & Sheri has moved on to open up their own shop. A shop that caters to Djs. Supplying and servicing dj equipment. Their shop not only supply and service dj equipment, they also have dj workshops.
They carry all the major brands from Pioneer, Rane, EV, and American Dj. They can also order items that are not normally stocked in their shop.
The staff there is a really great group of people. Always willing to help and answer your questions. I'm not saying this because i'm their friend, it's because that's what I see when i'm there hanging out. Yes, you'll probably see me there cause I go there about twice a week. Hahah.
Anyway, come down to their Grand Opening this Wednesday Nov. 18, 2015. They will be open from 10am-11pm.
As our first post, we wanted to thank everyone for checking out our new company website. Want to thank friends and family that has helped us shape into what we are now. Wanted to thank the many businesses and organizations for their knowledge and willingness to teach us. Lastly, wanted to especially thank all our clients that helped make us successful. If it wasn't for you, we wouldn't be where we are today.
We wanted to bring you an exciting new company that can provide the essential services needed for your event. This company is a result of years providing those services. Yes, we are a new company but we are not new to the industry.
